EXPLORE LOVE IN ANY OF THESE CATEGORIES:

All submitted works must be original and unpublished works. Texts must be written in English. All works must fall within one of the following categories and be within the specified word/line count*: 

  • Fiction (maximum 2,000 words)* 
  • Non-fiction (maximum 2,000 words)*
  • Poetry (1-3 poems per single submission) (maximum total 75 lines)* 

  • Single Image (including illustration, photograph, or painting)

**Word count includes titles, except poetry. Submissions over the specified word count will be disqualified. Word counts are determined using Microsoft Word's word counter. 

For each entry, participants must complete a separate submission form and pay the entry fee.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Thank you for not using an author pseudonym.

There must be only one author per submission.

Please do not send us multiple submissions. We will only accept one submission at a time from an author. If you are interested in submitting more than one piece, please wait until you receive a decision on one before submitting another.

All submitted works must be original and unpublished. All works that have been published in print or on the Internet, including self-published works, as well as works that have been broadcast or taped are considered previously published and are therefore ineligible for submission.

Please use Times New Roman or Arial 12 pt. font, double spacing, and include page numbers. Please do not include your name or contact information in the file name, header/footer or title page to allow for blind reading.

We accept simultaneous submissions. Use Submittable’s “withdraw” feature to make us aware if another magazine accepts your publication.

Editorial comments will not be provided on general submissions, although accepted submissions will go through an editorial process.

In the non-fiction category, no composite characters, or invented situations may be used.

Submitters accept full liability for any intentional misrepresentation of truth resulting in legal action. donttalktomeaboutlove.org and its directors, officers and employees will not be liable for any resulting legal action due to misrepresentation of truth. If plagiarism is alleged, the editors shall conduct a reasonable inquiry in the circumstances, and if they determines that plagiarism has occurred, the submission will not be published. Such a decision by the editors shall be final and cannot be appealed. By submitting, submitters agree to abide by the submission rules which shall be applied by donttalktomeaboutlove.org. All its decisions are final and without appeal.

For any submitter who has not reached the age of majority in his/her province/state or country of residence, parental or guardian consent is necessary to submit.


FEES

Regular submissions require a $3 administration fee.


PUBLICATION

Works are published on the basis of the author's use of language, originality of subject, writing and/or artistic style. 

Submissions are published by the founding editors of donttalktomeaboutlove.org. All decisions by the editors are final. 

In submitting their work, each participant grants donttalktomeaboutlove.org the following licenses free of charge and irrevocably:
  •  The non-exclusive right to reproduce and publish the work submitted on the website.
  • The right to edit, abridge or excerpt the work for the purposes of publication. (The author will be consulted if significant edits are necessary.)

PAYMENT

We offer $50 to submitters for publication of regular, on-going submissions. (not applicable to contests)

Candidates warrant they have created the work they are submitting and that they own all rights to it. Candidates will indemnify and hold partners and editors of donttalktomeaboutlove.com harmless from and against any and all loss, damage, costs and other expense arising out of claims, whatever their nature, resulting directly or indirectly from breach of this warranty.

In submitting their work, each participant grants donttalktomeaboutlove.org the following licenses free of charge and irrevocably:
  •  The non-exclusive right to reproduce and publish the work submitted on the website.
  • The right to edit, abridge or excerpt the work for the purposes of publication. (The author will be consulted if significant edits are necessary.)
For a purpose of clarity, the Licences granted todonttalktomeaboutlove.org are for all territories throughout the world and are exclusive for a year from the date of acceptance of the prize and non-exclusive thereafter. Moreover, the winners and finalists (with the parents' or guardians' permission if the winners/finalists are minors) shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph used for advertising purposes related to this competition, free of charge. 


FEES

A fee of $20.00 USD is required (taxes included) for each entry (worldwide) except for Canadian entries placed from Canada, where the fee will be $20.00 CDN. Candidates will not be eligible until payment has been received. 

The entry fee will not be refunded if your submission is ineligible. All submissions are final: entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. 


JUDGING

Works are judged anonymously on the basis of the author's use of language, originality of subject and writing style. 

Submissions are adjudicated by the founding editors of donttalktomeaboutlove.org. All decisions by the jury are final. 


PRIZES

Cash prizes in each category are offered:     
$1,000 First Prize for Fiction; $1,000 First Prize for Non-fiction
Three Honourable Mentionsin each category, with guaranteed publication in donttalktomeaboutlove.org. 

Participants may win only one prize per category. Participants maintain ownership of their works, although rights to reproduce and distribute them to the public are limited by the licences granted according to these rules. 

Prizes shall be accepted as is, and may not be exchanged or transferred. No substitutions shall be allowed. 

To be proclaimed winners, participants must meet all the conditions set out in these rules. The winners, or in the of case minors, their parents or guardians, release the donttalktomeaboutlove.org founders and employees, from any liability for damage or loss whatsoever, whether arising from the participants' involvement in this competition or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize. 

 
GENERAL RULES

Should participants make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the competition. If plagiarism is alleged, the jury shall conduct a reasonable inquiry in the circumstances, and if it determines that plagiarism has occurred, the participant concerned shall be disqualified and shall return the prize money. Such a decision by the jury shall be final and cannot be appealed. 

donttalktomeaboutlove.org founders and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.

All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, email address, year of birth and occupation, is collected solely for the purposes of administering this competition.Your email address will be used for a free subscription to the www.donttalktomeaboutlove.org site. Other information shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes.

By entering, participants agree to abide by the competition rules which shall be applied by donttalktomeaboutlove.org. All its decisions are final and without appeal.
